A busy, busy morning!!!

It took forever, but I am back from my doctor appointment! I was up there for almost 2 hours, but I found out during the u/s that they had a few "problem" babies before me, and one was going to require surgery. So then I had no reason to complain about my wait. I just didn't understand at the time what was taking so long for me to be seen.

The nurse discussed all the genetic counseling topics with me...Downs, Trisomy 13 & 18, and the discussion of Cystic Fibrosis. She asked my thoughts on amnio, etc. and told me that it would be next week before I would be called with the results of the bloodwork today. (However after the u/s today, I totally feel like Downs has been ruled out...)

My u/s went great!! This little baby was cooperative in the beginning, so the tech got lots of great pictures. He gave me some 4D u/s pictures, and those just blew me away. I've never seen anything like that before. He then told me to go relieve my bladder while I waited for the doctor to come in. Well that must have been all the baby was waiting on - b/c that's when he/she got ACTIVE!! I got to see the hand waving, feet, legs, arm, everything going crazy!! There was one thing that the doctor debated on telling me, but said that most normal babies have 2 arteries and one vein around the umbilical cord area, that somehow tie in w/ the heart. They could only pick up one artery on the u/s. The doctor said that it could be b/c it's too early or that this baby only has one artery. She said that still didn't mean that the baby would be anything other than healthy and normal. So, she is going to suggest that when I go back for my anatomy u/s @ 18-20 weeks they look into this again. If they still only see one artery, they may send me to a cardiologist for the baby to do further checking. I halfway started crying because I was scared, but she assured me that 99 times out of a 100 this baby will be just fine. So, I'm just going to turn it over to God, try not to worry about it and see what happens at the next u/s.

I have got a tid bit of educated "guessing" that went on today!!! The tech asked me if I wanted to know the gender of the baby. I was like "YES!!!" He explained to me how they can tell this early, and what all they look into. There are 2 lines above the "rump" area this early on and if they are going straight across, that normally means "girl", and if they're pointing up, it usually means "boy. He said if he was to make a guess, it would be for a ..............................................................................GIRL! I about fell over! He told me not to run out and paint the nursery pink by any means, but that is his educated guess. So, we'll see! ;) Guess we'll find out mid-November if he was right! I'll post some pictures soon. Love to all........Amy
